Cockroaches
Cockroaches are brownish, flattened having long slender antennae. They are more active during
night. Most preferred hideouts of cockroaches are Kitchen, store, washrooms including other
dark, warm and moist areas of the building. Adult cockroaches are ½ to 2 inches in size. They
prefer all food material being consumed by human as well soap, glue, toothpastes, books, etc.
They are health hazard as they are the carrier of diseases as well they are nuisance.
Termites
Termites are known as “silent destroyer” because they are capable of chewing wood, flooring,
wallpaper, Plastic and fabrics made from plant. Most common species are subterranean termites.
They are long, narrow, oval in shape and creamy brown in color. They are up to 1” long. Damage
caused by termites are $5 billion every year.
Rodents
Rodent includes rats, mice and bandicoots which are health hazards as well cause economic loss.
Rats are approx. 10” to 16” long and brown to black in color. They eat a wide variety of food
including cereals, vegetables, fruits, nuts, cooked foods, etc. They are responsible to spread
bubonic Plague, Hantavirus, etc. They damage by chewing and eating foods, contaminating foods by
urinating and moving around.
Mosquitoes
Mosquitoes are best known as “summer Pest” but are active and available through out the year.
They ¼” to 3/8” in
size. They are narrow, oval in shape and their color combination include brown, grey, black,
white and silver.
Mosquitoes spread diseases such as Malaria, Dengue fever and Chikungunya. They breed mostly
where water is
stagnant. Mosquitoes can develop from egg to adult in 10 to 14 days. Male mosquitoes feed on
plant nectar.
Female mosquitoes feed on plant nectar and blood. To get the blood they pierce skin with their
“proboscis”and
suck blood.
House Flies
House Flies as their name suggest found around homes. They are 1/4” in size, small oval in shape
and Dark grey
in color. They develop from egg to larvae in 6 – 7 days. Adults live for 15 – 25 days. House
Flies breed in
Compost, Garbage and Pet surroundings. They usually stay within 1-2 miles surrounding of their
birth place. The
Flies can transmit diseases including Dysentery, Diarrhea, cholera, typhoid, skin infections,
eye infections,
etc.
Bed Bugs
Bedbugs are small, oval, flat and brown in color. Usually they are 3/16” long. They usually hide
during day time
and come out to feed on the human blood during night. Female bedbugs can lay 1 to 5 eggs per
day. Development
from egg to adult takes 21 days to 120 days. They can live up to 316 days with normal feeding
and reproductive
cycle. Due to their bite swelling, allergy and irritation is caused.
